Archive Miniatures Ben Kenobi Bootleg Metal Figure
Ben Kenobi Archive Miniature Figure (1977)
The bantha came in two main variations, one with a saddle and one without. The Sand Person figures sits neatly on top.
We all think that the Kenner Luke, Leia, Chewie and R2-D2 figures were the first Star Wars figures to be sold, but there was someone who beat Kenner to the market.
Archive Miniatures was a maker of small, metal figures for Dungeons & Dragons and similar gaming. Mere months after the release of Star Wars, in July 1977, Archive introduced a line of unlicensed Star Wars miniatures. They were sold at conventions and later in gaming magazines until the eventual cease and desist hit.
The figures are charming interpretations of Star Wars characters. Each one is unique, being hand cast. Some were sold painted or in sets. They are quite heavy.
The Star Wars Archive has a great deep dive article on the history of Star Wars Archive Miniatures.
